Magento Auto Backup

Post By:user_23495 | Reply

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to create automatic backups of a Magento database?  Using Magento?  or, will I need to set up a Cron using host tools?

I’m not using the cron, cause i have my own, but I’d guess there are thounds of possible reasons, while the cron is not working. To narrow it down, i’d start the cron-script manually by ssh and see what happens. Insert some echos to find out where it dies ...

thanks for your answer!
And yeah you*re right, but I’m not familiar with setting up magento cron!
I saw the link to the tutorial of how to set up this cron jobs, but I’m not quite sure if I’m
doing it the right way? Is there somebody who already set this cron up and could post his code,
because it still doesn’t work for me! sorry but I’m new to magento ...

thanks! Konrad

I installed the automatic backup extension a few days ago and nothing happens???
Do I need to make some configurations? Or do I need to setup a magento cron to run this backup?

I never used this extension, but the second sentence of the extensions “overview” sais:

“You just need Magento’s cron up and running, and this module will do the rest.”

massi, thank you very much! Am I to assume that you CAN NOT cron the built-in back up tool? That would be an almost useless tool to have if you can’t automate it.

your question is some time ago, but maybe it might help someone reading this thread – i just found the following lines to start magentos db-backup routine:

$b Mage::getModel('backup/backup');
$b->load(time() . "_db.sql""/path/to/folder/at/which/backup/will/be/stored/");

$db Mage::getModel('backup/db');
$db->createBackup($b);

Use this extension: http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/centerax/extension/2927/automatic-db-backups

You have to make some modifications:

massi, can you advise what I am missing? mysqldumper does not appear to handle the foreign key issue that is causing me trouble. I am able to create a back up ok, but never been able to restore successfully. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Or anyone else for that matter.

I still ask, has ANYONE been successful at setting up a cron job to run the Magento backup????

I can’t believe something this important is going unanswered. confused

mysqldumper is definitely working with magento!

Thanks for the quick response. I would also like to know why there is NO documentation on how to use CRON to backup magento using the built-in magento backup utility? Has anyone been able to this?

standard mysql dumps dont generally work with the magento DB structure due to the various relationships.

you would need a custom script writing to create a DB dump and then link it up to the cron system.

I tried using mysqldumper and was not successful importing the created sql file. The error I get is “#1452 - Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails...”

I get this same error if I use an export from phpMyAdmin. Is there something I am doing wrong? Has anyone used mysqldumper successfully on magento?

I can recommend MySQLdumper.
